Raman Spectroscopy and Imaging of Graphene

Address correspondence to [email protected] ABSTRACT Graphene has many unique properties that make it an ideal material for fundamental studies as well as for potential applications. Here we review recent results on the Raman spectroscopy and imaging of graphene. We show that Raman spectroscopy and imaging can be used as a quick and unambiguous method to determine the number of graphene layers. The strong Raman signal of single layer graphene compared to graphite is explained by an interference enhancement model. We have also studied the effect of substrates, the top layer deposition, the annealing process, as well as folding (stacking order) on the physical and electronic properties of graphene. Finally, Raman spectroscopy of epitaxial graphene grown on a SiC substrate is presented and strong compressive strain on epitaxial graphene is observed. The results presented here are highly relevant to the application of graphene in nano-electronic devices and help in developing a better understanding of the physical and electronic properties of graphene.

Raman spectroscopy study of nano sheets of graphene and measurement of their resistivity
Graphene is a promising candidate for future high-speed electronics applications. It is a thin layer of pure carbon in which every atom is available for chemical reaction from two sides (due to the 2D structure). This is the only form of carbon (or solid material) with this characteristic feature. Graphene oxide (GO) was synthesized through the oxidation of graphite using the Hummer’s method, i...
متن کاملHigh-throughput graphene imaging on arbitrary substrates with widefield Raman spectroscopy.
Raman spectroscopy has been used extensively to study graphene and other sp(2)-bonded carbon materials, but the imaging capability of conventional micro-Raman spectroscopy is limited by the technique's low throughput. In this work, we apply an existing alternative imaging mode, widefield Raman imaging (WRI), to image and characterize graphene films on arbitrary substrates with high throughput. ...

Objective(s): Graphene as two-dimensional (2D) materials have attracted wide attention in different fields such as biomedical imaging. Ultra-small graphene nano-sheets (UGNSs) have been designated as low dimensional graphene sheets with lateral dimensions less than few nanometres (≤ 500 nm) in one, two or few layers. Several studies have proven that the process of acidic exfoliation and oxidati...

Reduced graphene oxide(rGO)–silver(Ag) nanocomposites have been prepared by using solution based facile one-pot synthesis process. The reaction process involves high-temperature liquid-phase exfoliation of graphite oxide and silver acetate in presence of N-N’dimethylformamide (DMF) solvent, resulting in simultaneous formation of rGO as well as Ag nanoparticles. Different nanocomposites have bee...

Graphene has extraordinary mechanical and electronic properties, making it a promising material for membrane-based nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS). Here, chemical-vapor-deposited graphene is transferred onto target substrates to suspend it over cavities and trenches for pressure-sensor applications. The development of such devices requires suitable metrology methods, i.e., large-scale char...
